Hi! We are Stewart and Emma Bartz. We are passionate about what we do and we hope to share that passion with others. Here is a little more insight to who we are, what we do and why we do it.
We are a family owned and operated Red Angus beef and crop farm.
We have what is called a cow-calf operation. That means that we have a herd of mother cows that have a calf each year. We raise the calves until they are weaned. At this time, we sell a portion of our calf crop to other farmers to be finished and butchered. We retain a portion of our calves which we will have processed by a USDA certified butcher, to sell the meat directly to our customers.
We are a grass fed, grain finished operation. This means that the animals who are destined to be turned into the delicious beef products we sell, are grazed on pasture land for the vast majority of their life. When they are almost ready for butchering we will add a mixture of grains, which we grow right here on the farm, to help them develop good marbling in the muscle of their bodies, which provides great tasting beef.
We strive to be good stewards of the land and provide the best life possible for our animals. We implement a number of conservation practices across the farm to ensure that the land is well taken care of and provides the crops and nutrients we need to raise our animals.
Besides the beef operation, we also operate 4oo acres of crop land that we use to grow feed for our livestock as well as additional grain that we sell to local feed mills and crop processors. We have a diverse crop rotation that includes corn, soybeans, oats, rye, and a variety of hay mixtures used to feed our animals over the winter.
We are located in Northwest Wisconsin, in between Eau Claire and the Minnesota Twin Cities. We are lucky enough to live in the country and have a rural lifestyle while still being close enough to larger cities that allows us to connect with our wonderful customers who wish to get a glimpse of how their food is raised and cared for.
Our Family; Past and Present
We are the 5th generation of farmers in the Bartz family, living and working on the same farm that Stewart grew up on.
Stewart's parents still live next door and oftentimes lend a hand when needed, whether that is additional help with field work or occupying their grandchildren with gator rides through the woods and fields or a trek down to Bolen creek to look for minnows and sail cucumber boats.
Emma did not grow up on a farm but she fell in love with black and white cows at a young age and always wanted to live on a dairy farm.
Our farm used to be a small, 40 cow dairy farm until August of 2020 when we decided to switch to a beef operation.
We have 2 children; a son, Wesley, and daughter, Sadie Jo, as well as a border collie/ blue heeler mix named Ellie Mae.
